Human Behavior Modeling
This site is about Human Behavior Modeling -- a new and emergent area of Computer Science.
What is Human Behavior Modeling?
The defining feature of this new approach is use of the massive data sets, collected via sensors and mobile devices, such as cell phones, motes, badges, etc. Voice, motion, accelerometer data such as iPhone's, allow to see human activity on an unprecedented scale -- with fine granularity, over months and years, and for whole cities and nations.
Another key feature of the area is the usage of Machine Learning (ML) techniques to make sense of these vast reams of data. Thus Computer Science (CS) is at the helm here, in a model similar to cognitive science working in tandem with computational lingustics at CS-based places like IRCS (Institute for Research in Cognitive Science at UPenn).
The discipline is very young -- it just had its first workshop -- so the definition is still in the works. We'll have an area of the site where researchers and practitioners can help hash it out!
